Fishing Boat
03:46
|
|||
I never was a sailor
My father drove a Volvo
Across the sands and far away
And if you come to see me,
I’ll be out on my fishing boat
Row away my fishing boat.
Oh there was a time when
I swore I'd sail the seas
But growing up has change me
From the man I thought I'd be
From white sails to gasoline
I've seen Vermont in the morning,
Waking like a lover.
Bright trees and silos.
Gone down to Atlanta
Chasing the ghost of a Volvo
Finding out just what I need
To be my true love’s true love
Across the sands and far away.
My mother told me gently
Don’t reach where you can’t see
And behind that rock was a cottonmouth.
And if I get it all together,
I’ll buy myself a fishing boat
Set out on the delta
The old, old ghost and me.
Row away my fishing boat

I'm sure you've heard of Jericho
How Moses let my people go
God spoke to me said I'll be king
I'm skeptical but here's the thing
His power is everlasting
I suggest you march back home
They say that it's a mystery
Some times I think it's fantasy
And reading scripture I abhor
Most of it is one big bore
But there is one part says,
Small men win wars
And in that I do believe
I am just my father's son
But you are just like anyone
I've read bout mortality
I see you in front of me
To you I am the enemy
But to me our gods are one

My Lorraine
03:10
|
|||
My Lorraine, I'm a fool
Should have stayed and fought for you
Time just came to a rest
When you wore you're Sunday dress
Warm nights in April
Last day of school
Passing the bottle, beneath the moon
I looked past the fire, with a gaze so true
I spoke to the higher, and begged for you
My Lorraine, I'm a fool
Never said that I loved you
Kissed your cheek, wished the best
But I just could not confess
I cut all my ties
And left no goodbye
But when it got lonely, I was only
Dreaming of you,
My Lorraine
My Lorraine I'm a fool
Should have stayed and fought for you
My Lorraine I'm a fool
Never said that I loved you
I confess, yes it's true
But baby, you don't want a man like me
A man who turned to flee
Old haunts, old times
I guess they've sailed on by
My Lorraine I'm a fool
Should have stayed and fought for you
My Lorraine I'm a fool
Never said that I loved you
I confess, yes it's true
And I don't know what to do

Scrub Jay
02:24
|
|||
There’s an old scrubjay in a lemon tree,
And at night he comes and he sings to me,
“Come home. Andrew, Please come home.”
When I awoke, the old backyard is where I wanted to be.
In the old backyard, there’s a high grey wall
And an old scrubjay, who starts to call,
And he’ll sing- but scrubjays don’t quite sing
He’ll make a proud little squawk, and he’ll fly right up to the lemon trees growin’ tall.
There’ll be big black bees in wisteria trees,
Flying as they please, speaking bumble-ese,
And we’ll laugh. Lord knows how we’ll laugh
As we watch ‘em fly, and bumble back in forth in the summery breeze.
There’ll be my brother too, sayin’ how do you do,
Doing all the things I wish I could do,
And we’ll play, though lord knows what we’ll play.
There’s plenty of time and dreams and schemes between us for one to come true.
But the days are long, and the nights are hot.
You eat too muchs sweets and your teeth’ll rot.
I know. I been taught so’s I know.
The world can be yours, you must work for what you want. That I haven’t forgot.
But this big bad world ain’t what it seems,
Scrubjay, he’ll call me back when he deems
it time. But lord knows it’s not time.
So fare thee well to the backyard I remember in my dreams.
There’s an old scrubjay in a lemon tree,
And at night he comes and he sings to me,
“Come home. Andrew, Please come home.”
When I awoke, the old backyard is where I wanted to be.

Turtledove
02:05
|
|||
Fly away my turtle dove, sing me a song before you fly.
If you ever return again, I’ll live in this valley ‘till I die
Cause someone loves you, and someone needs you
And that someone is me.
And though he loves you, and though he needs you
He needs his turtle dove to be free
Fly away, my turtle dove, whichever way the wind may blow,
And if you’re flying north again, keep warm from winter snow.
Cause someone loves you, and someone needs you
And that someone is me.
And though he loves you, and though he needs you
He needs his turtle dove to be free

The Man Without a Plan
04:06
|
|||
He took over the desk at midnight
Where he would read without a peep
He very seldom saw the sunlight
Cause in the daytime he would sleep
It wasn't always this way
His wife had said she couldn't stay
She said I can't stand living with a man without a plan
The man without a plan
He gave suggestions to the tourists
To go see sights he'd never seen
He called them taxis to the airport
To fly them where he'd never been
One day he dusted off his shelf
Found an old picture of himself
And regret started pouring through the man without a plan
He could no longer stand
Being a man without a plan
A man without a plan
He knew he wouldn't live forever
And he had some money tucked away
He said "I guess it's now or never"
"I guess today's my rainy day"
And now it's been two years since
He gave his two month leave of absence
He found the joy in living as a man without a plan
He'll wander while he can
Cause he's the man without a plan
The man without a plan

On the Rise
03:37
|
|||
Sweet slumber, come and take me away
This time tomorrow, everything will be ok
But lord won't you take me away
I may be lost
But I'm, on the rise
I may be lost
But I'm, in for the ride
Don't you worry, if I get caught in the rain
There's no hurry, I'm just happy to see you again
It's good to have a friend
I may be lost
But I'm, on the rise
I may be lost
But I'm, in for the ride
With you by my side
Pat the prairies, there's a meeting place
That's where you'll find me, once you've boarded the train
I'll be seeing you again
I may be lost
But I'm, on the rise
I may be lost
But I'm, in for the ride
With you by my side

Isla Colón
03:04
|
|||
They had too much fun
Now broken stuff's strung out across the streets
I'm leaving today, for Mirante Bay
Soon I'll feel her heat
Isla Colón
I come alone
I need your light my way
Isla Colón
I'll make a home in your sunshine
A midnight walk along the dock
Will help to ease my mind
The steel drum sound begins to drown
Out all I left behind
Isla Colón
I come alone
I need your light my way
Isla Colón
I'll make a home in your sunshine
Nobody smiled in the city
And it almost broke me down
But in this spot I can hear my thoughts
I can finally be free
Isla Colón
I'm so alone
I need your light my way
Isla Colón
I'll make a home in your sunshine

Men on the Moon
03:32
|
|||
Tetrahedron, Cube, octahedron, do-
Decahedron, I, cosahedron, my oh my
“You’ve got me figured out” Plato saw the solid and he heard it shout
These are the days of men on the moon
Astronauts and Rocket ships, it's all coming so soon
You know it's true.
Leonardo and his flying machines
He knew they didn’t work boy, but he knew they were the dream and they sang out
These are the days of men on the moon
Astronauts and Rocket Ships, it's all coming so soon
You know it's true.
Darwin on his little isle
He listened to his finches
And you know they made him smile when they sang out
*Tweety tweet tweet*
And that translates to,
Laws are written in stones and the marrow of your bones
Handed down, the helix crown
To a world that’s spinning ‘round, and in it, it reads:
These are the days of men on the moon
Astronauts and Rocketships, it's all coming so soon
You know it's true
